You've landed. You're tired. You're in paradise and you just want to get to your hotel, have a cold drink, and stop thinking about airports for a week. We get it.

Here's everything you need to know about getting from the airport to wherever you're staying in St. Lucia, written by people who've done this transfer a few thousand times.

First Things First: Which Airport Are You Flying Into?

St. Lucia has two airports and knowing which one you're using changes everything.

Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in Vieux Fort is where most international flights land from the US, Canada, UK and Europe. The catch is that UVF sits at the very southern tip of the island. If you're staying in Rodney Bay, that's a 90-minute drive. Soufrière is about 50 minutes. Castries is 75 minutes. The drives are stunning, but they are proper drives, so factor that into your arrival day plans.

George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) near Castries handles smaller regional flights from other Caribbean islands. If you're connecting from Barbados or Antigua, this might be your airport. The good news is it's much closer to most hotels, so transfers are shorter and cheaper.

What About Uber?

This comes up a lot so it's worth being upfront about it.

Uber does operate in St. Lucia, but it's not straightforward. The service has been operating in a legal gray area for a while now as drivers are not licensed as taxi operators under St. Lucia's transport regulations, which has caused real controversy on the island between Uber drivers and the licensed taxi industry. The situation is ongoing.

What that means practically: Uber cars do run, and some visitors use them. But you're taking a gamble on whether your driver will show up, whether they know the roads well, and what happens if there's a problem. There's no accountability the way there is with a licensed, pre-booked operator.

For a short taxi ride around Rodney Bay town, it's probably fine. For an airport transfer after a long international flight, with your luggage and potentially your family, most experienced St. Lucia visitors stick with a pre-booked licensed transfer. It's not worth the uncertainty on day one.

How Much Should You Expect to Pay for Airport Transfers in St. Lucia?

Taxis in St. Lucia are not metered. Prices are fixed by zone, and any reputable operator will give you a price before you book. Here's a rough guide from UVF:

Route

Private vehicle (up to 3 people)

Groups of 4+

UVF to Soufrière

From $120 USD

From $38 pp

UVF to Rodney Bay

From $120 USD

From $38 pp

UVF to Castries

From $120 USD

UVF to Marigot Bay

UVF to Cap Estate

SLU to Rodney Bay

Ask for group rate

Always get your price confirmed in writing before you travel. If someone at the airport approaches you and gives you a quote that sounds too good, ask if it's per person or per vehicle before you agree. It's a common source of confusion and it can get awkward.

What Makes a Good Transfer Worth the Price

At FRAM Tours we're upfront that we're not the cheapest option on the island. What we do offer is this:

Happy couple arriving at UVF getting ready for their airport transfer to Rodney Bay

  • Your driver tracks your flight in real time. If you're delayed, they already know and they adjust. You won't land after a 3-hour delay to find no one waiting.

  • Someone is there with a sign when you walk out of customs. Your bags get handled. There are cold drinks waiting in the vehicle. The car is private, air-conditioned, and goes directly to your hotel with no stops for other passengers.

  • You also get a direct WhatsApp line to your driver. If you have any questions the night before arrival, just message. It's that straightforward.

We've served over 10,000 happy travellers and hold a 5-star rating on TripAdvisor. That's what we trade on, not being the lowest price on the island.

The VIP Fast Track Option at UVF

If you've never arrived at Hewanorra on a busy Saturday afternoon, the immigration queue might surprise you. During peak season it can run over an hour, which is rough after a long-haul flight.

Our VIP Fast Track add-on sends a dedicated agent to meet you at the gate before you even reach the immigration hall. They walk you through the priority lanes for immigration, baggage and customs. Most guests are in the vehicle within 20 minutes of the aircraft doors opening.

It's popular with honeymooners, families with young children, and anyone who has ever stood in that queue once and decided never again. You can add it to any FRAM airport transfer when you book.

Practical Tips Before You Arrive

Book in advance. During peak season (December through April), transfer slots fill up, particularly for Fast Track. Don't leave it until the night before.

Send your driver your flight number. A good operator tracks it anyway, but confirming your flight details at booking means everything is lined up correctly from the start.

Keep your booking confirmation offline. Save it to your phone before you board. Airport WiFi can be unreliable and the last thing you want is to be hunting for an email with no signal.

Don't accept rides from unlicensed drivers in arrivals. Licensed drivers wait in the designated area and are easy to spot. If someone approaches you unsolicited inside the terminal, that's not your driver.

Carry small USD bills for tips. Your driver will appreciate it and it's the expected courtesy for good service.
